 School year 2009-2010

  • We had an Easter Assembly in Halla Cullen on Friday 26th March.  The children from 1st class told the Easter Story.  We sang Christ be beside me, Alleluia and My Shepherd is the Lord.  Two very lucky children from each class won Easter eggs - congratulations to them.

   
  • Miss Jordan and the Green Team gave us some very important messages about how to keep our school a green school at the Easter Assembly on Friday 26th March.  Please remember to recycle the paper, plastic and card from your Easter eggs in your green bin at home.

  • The Food Dudes finished sending food to us in school on Friday 26th March.  They gave us special lunchboxes and drink beakers to help us stay healthy and continue to bring great fruit and vegetables to school.  Keep the life force strong!!!

  • Lots of the children have already brought back their Trócaire boxes.  They should be returned to the school by Wednesday 24th March.  Your generosity and help is very much appreciated.

  • We had a surprise visit on Friday March 19th from members of An Garda Síochána and their horses Donagh & Ruairí.  The children had a chance to talk to the Gardaí and pet the beautiful horses.

  • The children celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge and St Patrick's Day with a Céilí in Halla Cullen on Friday 19th March.  The Junior Infants sang Dublin's Fair City & recited Lámh Lámh Eile, The Senior Infants sang Beidh Aonach Amárach & My Irish Molly, The First Class children sang Tá na báid & Dublin in the Rare Old Times.  Miss Shannon's Irish dancers performed The Siege of Ennis and a Reel.  St Patrick even met Molly Malone!

  • The March Fair on Friday 12th March was a great success again this year.  The children bought lots of toys and had some tasty treats from the Shamrock Cafe.  Some of the children even had their face painted.  Many thanks to all of the children and parents who worked so hard.

  • World Book Day is celebrated on Thursday 4th March.  We love to read in St Louis.  Each child will receive a book token in school that day.  Please try to read a book at home to celebrate it.  If you want to hear and see an author read a story please click on www.readtoamillionkids.co.uk/videos

Readingreading

  • The Food Dudes Programme started in school on Thursday 4th March.  The children will have an opportunity to eat lots of fruit and vegetables.  They will get prizes if they eat the food and it should be great fun for all involved.  An information pack will be sent home to explain the programme.  Have a look at the children in Room 7 eating their carrots and raisins.  For more information click onwww.fooddudes.ie

  • We were so lucky to have visitors during the week beginning Monday 1st February from the DIT.  These talented visitors showed the children the musical instruments that they could play - these included the clarinet, piano, violin and guitar.  The children were given a chance to ask questions and to perform songs and they thoroughly enjoyed it.  Many thanks to all our guest musicians.

  • We had a visit from the Dental Hygienist Yvonne Gray on Tuesday 2nd February.  She explained to the children in Senior Infants how best to look after their teeth.  Many thanks to Yvonne and her helpful crocodile!

  • Margaret Gallery brought her two beautiful dogs to visit the children in Junior Infants on Wednesday 27th January.  The dogs are called Peaches and Nelly.  The children were told all about what the dogs like to eat and drink and play.  Many thanks to Margaret.

  • Catherine Dunphy from "The Magic of Music" visited the school on Friday 22nd January.  The children had a great time listening to music, composing and performing and singing.  Catherine visited the school again on Friday January 29th.  The children loved to sing and play instruments with Catherine.  For more information check out www.themagicofmusic.ie

  • Members of An Garda Síochána visited Senior Infants on Tuesday 19th January.  The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit.  Many thanks to the Gardaí from Rathmines Station.

  • Our Christmas Concerts were fantastic again this year. We had four plays in total accompanied by percussion bands and the piano and recorder players. See below the junior infant, two senior infant groups and first class shows. We are very proud of all our children.

  • Our lollipop lady Sharon came to visit all the classes in November. Sharon talked to the children about her bright uniform and crossing the road safely. The children really enjoyed Sharon's visit.

  • We celebrated our Advent Assembly on Friday 27th November. It was a lovely celebration with lots of singing and prayer. We learned all about the Advent Wreath and look forward to celebrating the birthday of Jesus. Our readers spoke beautifully and we enjoyed a special atmosphere of love and celebration.

      

  • The Garda Band kindly visited our school and played for the children and adults in our community. It was an evening of fun and song. We thank all parents who supported our event and the parent's association who also helped out with the event.  The atmosphere was fully charged and everyone had a lovely night. Thank you to all who turned out in such numbers.

  • We had our Hallowe'en assembly in the halla- it was a great celebration with poetry, songs, prayers and prize giving for artists of the month.  We all dressed up for Hallowe'en. It was great fun!  

                    

 

 

  • Maths Week Ireland was a great success. We had lots of classes working in groups and pairs at various stations. We matched pairs, sequenced, played snakes and ladders, arranges children in order of height and age, played memory games, made pictures from out tangram shapes, measured things in our class, had number competitions and lots lots more!

School year 2008-2009...

  • Gillian Saunders and her dog Coco from The Dog’s Trust came to visit us. We loved meeting coco and learning how to look after a pet dog.

  • We had super fun and lots of exercise during Active Week. We did a different P.E. activity every day and the older children wrote about it in their diaries.

  • The Army Number One Band came to play for all of our children in the hall on a beautiful Spring day. We learned all about their instruments and listened to some wonderful music. A big thank you to Captain Carroll and all the band members. Some of our children helped them with percussion instruments. We had a super day.

  • We all enjoyed the excitement of our annual March Fair. It is a great time of sharing, fun and co-operation between parents and children. A St Louis tradition that is, a huge event for the children. Parents kindly helped out and we had a very special day.

  • We had a parent and author come in to visit us and talk about his job. We prepared questions and then asked them. It was a very interesting experience and the children were enthralled!

  • The  string quartet "Graffiti Classics" visited our school on Friday 6th  March.

  • Our children have been busy preparing some lovely pictures for the Texaco Art Competition. We are very proud of our budding artists. Here are just a few of them...

  • We put up some bird feeders to help the birds during the very cold weather.

  • We participated in "The Big Sing" and supported Childline and The Special Olympics by singing the Des'ree song "You Gotta Be". We all gathered in Halla Cullen and sang beautifully together. We all brought one euro of our own money into school to help those children who are not as lucky as us. A big thank you to all the teachers and parents who helped support this event.

  • Our May Procession was held  in the glorious sunshine. We had songs, prayers, musicians, flowers and sunshine. Fr Sheehy joined us to celebrate the month of Mary.

  • First Classes  planted a wild flower garden in October.

  • Sports day was a super day for all. The infants had their day in the school hall and the Millennium playground and the older children visited the convent grounds. This is a fun sporting event where the emphasis is on the activity itself not the winning. All children received a treat and a sticker. We are very proud of all our little sports stars!

  • We celebrated “Science Week ’08” in our school from November 10th- 14th. Our children were busy investigating, exploring, reasoning and experimenting. Junior infants explored those items in their classrooms which use electricity, whilst also investigating magnetism. Among those areas investigated by the older children were static electricity, shadows, sounds, colours, light and balance. We were very fortunate to have the expertise of a chemical engineer in our school during science week. Many thanks to our parents who helped with scientific experiments.
