Events this year 2010-2011
We have had lots of fun this school year. In June we had our school tours and sports days and lots of opportunities to talk about and sequence our school year. We are all looking forward to a long and happy Summer. We will all keep up our reading and our 'cúpla focail as Gaeilge'!! Why not take a look at some of the events of our school year...
Our President, Mary Mc Aleese visited the school on May 6th. It was a celebration of our children and school community. It was an inspiring occasion for all involved and will live on in the school memory for a long time to come. The president met our green team with their two flags, all our children, enjoyed singing and dancing and poetry. As the president's children all attended Louis schools, she was aware of the high standards of the school and was not disappointed by our wonderful children. Adults and children alike enjoyed the words of the president and will keep her message with us- she was very happy to see the future of Ireland through our children- a happy and caring community. See pictures below.
The Easter bunny came to visit us at our Easter assembly. We also had prizes for each class for best effort and the green art competition. The children were excellently behaved as usual and we had lovely songs and our Easter story. The arrival of the Easter bunny caused a bit of a rumpus!!
We were visited by the Sefton Schools Orchestra in April- a treat for the children. There was greater emphasis on using the voice and the brass section of the orchestra during this musical extravaganza!
The Guildhall School of Music came all the way from London to visit us on Thursday 31st March. The children attended special workshops and learned about all the instruments and musical pieces. The musicians also played at our Platform concert that evening in the school hall. Many of our children performed for parents and the community. It is always an enjoyable evening and one to make us very proud of our children.
Deirdre
Uí Dhubhda from Dogs trust and her dog Sadhbh came to visit our
school on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th of
March. All the children enjoyed meeting Deirdre and Sadhbh and
learned all about taking care of a pet dog.

Illustrator and story teller Don Conroy visited the children on 22nd March for a fun occasion involving learning about art, nature and storytelling.
Our Céilí Mór was a fantastic occasion for all involved. We had guest musician Professor Dan Trueman in to play the harding fele, we had St Patrick himself come to visit, Ulster champion dancer, Ms Brady, along with our own pupils dancing jigs and reels, we had rapping as Gaeilge, break dancing, violin and piano music and a fabulous variety of songs. Well done to all involved.
The annual March Fair was a great success again this year. The children bought lots of toys, books, jigsaws, treats and got their faces painted by a professional artist no less. They then sat down for some refreshments like popcorn, juice and jelly. We had a prize draw and lots of excitement. Sincere thanks to all the parents who made delicious cakes and helped out on the day. It is always a day where the school community come together to enjoy the children and their excitement.
The Army No. One Band visited our children to play lots of tunes and demonstrate all the parts of their band: the percussion, woodwind and brass sections. We learned to recognise the sound of instruments like the trumpet, the flute, the base and snare drums and the saxophone along with many many more. We thank captain Carroll and all the band for their generosity and the excellent example they set for our boys and girls.
Senior infants and first classes enjoyed a visit from Christine
Campbell, “Anyone 4 science” on Friday 21st January. Children
learned about acids and bases, did some investigations an made great
acid and base paintings. It was lots of fun!
Mr Jim Nagle from Dublin zoo came in to show the children some animal skins and other interesting items, including an elephants foot!! He was very interesting and the children were fascinated by what he had to teach us.
The Garda band visited our children on Wednesday 12th January and the children thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. We learned about all sorts of instruments like the piccolo, concert flute, trumpet, saxophone, guitar, keyboard, clarinet and the children's favourite...the drums!! Ms Mulkerrin even got up to conduct the band! The children were very well behaved and sang, clapped and waved to every song- we had a blast!!
Our Christmas plays were absolutely fantastic. The children were excellent at singing, saying their words, playing percussion instruments and dancing, not to mention acting!!
Junior Infants...
First Classes .. .
We had a visit from our two friends, Peaches and Nelly in December. We learned how to care for dogs and keep them happy, safe and healthy.

From this scene in our playground.....

to this...
we are always here to learn together and have fun! We were very lucky to have the help of a JCB to help keep the school open and safe for children during the snow.

Our Advent Assembly was celebrated with songs, readings, the story of Advent and children from room four dressed up as the characters in the nativity scene.
Our Halloween assembly was very spooky!! We sang songs, learned about Halloween games, foods dress and witches long ago. We had a great time. We also had a 'Best Dressed' competition. Look and see...
Our Visit to the Irish Times Music in the Classroom Concert was a great success. The children had a wonderful time whilst learning and singing to their hearts content.
